The Waters We Fish Looking for a fun adventure on the water? Fly Fishing trips are available for any skill level!Whether float or wade, fishing the local rivers and creeks presents plenty of opportunity to catch and release wild trout. With each adventure, you will depart with an increased comprehension of trout fishing and memories to share with friends and family. Stillwater River This is our main summer time river. The clean, cold water cascading out of theBeartooth Mountains into the valley below holds great numbers of rainbow and brown trout. The average size of these fish is 12 to 13 inches with many larger fish available. We float the Stillwater in a raft, custom rigged for fishing. We split the day between wade fishing some of the better runs and fishing from the boat as we float between those runs.I am very flexible, realizing that some people prefer to fish from the boat while others may prefer to do more wade fishing. We will customize our day on the river for your enjoyment. The Stillwater River has a great variety of water from smooth dry fly slicks to choppy riffles to boisterous, tumbling pocket water. It is a great river to hone your abilities as a fly angler. For those who do not want to float, wade trips are available.Floating is, however, recommended to access more water further from the public access points. Yellowstone River The Yellowstone is the longest free flowing river in the nation. It is a large, sometimes temperamental river that provides the opportunity to catch large rainbow and brown trout.Because of its large, wild nature, the Yellowstone River is the last river in the area to clear from run-off.It is high, muddy, and churning in May and June but usually clears sometime in July.We fish the Yellowstone when it clears through the fall.Because of the size of the river, we must use a McKenzie style drift boat to access itsplentiful riffles and long runs.A day on the Yellowstone may see us stripping streamers from the boat in the morning, casting hopper-dropper rigs after that, wade fishing the riffles with a nymph in the afternoon, and casting dry flies to rising trout in the evening. As always, we can customize the trip to maximize your learning potential and enjoyment on the river. Rock Creek Rock Creek is a small trout stream that flows through the middle of Red Lodge, northtowards Roberts, and beyond. This is the site of our half day trips. It is close to town so drive times are short but the fish areplentiful.Rock Creek is a great classroom to learn the basics of fly fishing. It is best suited for one intermediate angler.Twoanglers are possible, but must be willing to learn by watching each other fish.Because of its size, Rock Creek is too small to float. The fish in Rock Creek are mostly rainbows and browns with an occasional brook trout. They average in size from 6 to 16+ inches.Catching the larger fish requires stealthy wading, flawless presentation and teamwork between angler and guide.A little cooperation from the trout also helps.
